Planets

Some very humble attempts to capute come planet pictures with the little Canon S30. As the 3x zoom wil not quite suffice for this the Televid 77 will have to come to the rescue. At present the S30 is handheld behind the eyepiece of the scope which make is somewhat difficult to get sharp pictures.

Saturn

Dec 17 and 18 2002 was the time Saturn was the closest to earth in 30 years. Trying to see how much could be seen through the spotting scope at 60x I ventured outside on Dec 17 sometime after 21:30 but it was just too cold;-). So I tried again the next evening. The problem was that Saturn was much closer to the Moon that night, but at least it was not quite as cold.

I was quite impressed to be able to cleary see the rings of saturn at 60x through the spotting scope. So i tried to take some pictures to see if anything could be seen on them. And sure enough i got lucky. Below is a 100 % crop of a 3 Mpixel picture shot taken at 1/100 sec at f/3.2. I had the camera set to manual focus in macro mode at closest possible focus length.

Saturn and some other star to the right

Jupiter

So far no pictures but i'll def try to take some to check if the stripes i saw were there optically or if my brain added them in 'knowing' that they should be there. But only after i get my T77 to S30 'adapter' built.
